WOO HOO!!

I have never been asked to be a part of any design groups before and I am super excited to be a part of this one! The Creative Crew on Splitcoaststampers.com asked me and couldn’t hardly contain myself! I love challenges!! So! I want to give you a bit more details on some of the challenges for the month of May.

The theme for May is “Sweet Surprises” or “Suite Surprises”. I want to show the first challenge. SIP – Step it up! – Create a CAS project of you choosing with the theme in mind. Then create a second project, amped up with more enrichments, additions, layers…whatever you choose to really step it up.

So, here is my clean and simple card. I chose to make it a Sweet Suite Card. hehe. I used the Cool Treats Suite for both cards. I cut a Whisper White piece of paper that measures 3 x 5 1/2″.  I used the exact same size on the stepped-up version too.  This piece is popped up with dimensionals.  This card uses the Cool Treats Stamp set and Frozen Treats Framelits… plus, I just used the Tasty Treats washi tape as an accessory.  You will also notice that I have a banner (though it’s hard to see) popped up on the card as well.  I inked up the sentiment with chocolate chip ink, except for “sweet” which is in Watermelon Wonder.

This card, however, I used Watercolor paper instead of Whisper White for the 3 x 5 1/2″ piece and the banner.  I used the Tasty Treats DSP, the Sprinkles Embellishments, added a spoon with silver foil, added a highlight on the ice cream dish and a water color background in Peekaboo Peach.

Tomorrow, i will show you the second challenge, stay tuned!

Technique Tuesday?

dragonflyGiven a challenge of making a one-layer card, I tried a new technique called Die Cut Masking.  This isn’t exactly how this technique was to be used but I wanted to change things up a bit.  I took painters tape and lined by Big Shot cutting pad with it.  I then put the die cut on top of the tape and ran it through.  Carefully, I peeled the tape outline off the cutting pad and stuck it to watercolor paper. I pressed firmly to made sure it adhered…  I then went to town on the watercolor paper.  I heat set the paper and then removed the tape.

Now, I could have clear embossed this and watercolored.  I would have gotten the same effect, essentially.  However, notice the “Thanks for the smile and everything else”. It’s stamped on TOP of the dragon fly – you can’t do that with clear embossing.  I am going to do this technique again…. doing it the way it was meant to be done…. I will show you it again, tomorrow.

The colors of ink that I used were Soft Sky, Marina Mist, Night of Navy and Elegant Eggplant.  The paper is Marina Mist and Watercolor Paper.  Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits were used to cut the painters tape.  I also used the Sale-A-Bration ribbon as an embellishment along with White Perfect Accents.  If you need supplies, please visit my website: mamaschroeg.stampinup.net

NEW Sale-a-bration goodies!

I am using 2 of the 3 brand new Sale-a-bration items that are NOW available.  All you have to do is place a $50 order and you can choose one of 3 beautiful new products.  One of them is GLIMMER paper!  Oh my word!  Bermuda Bay, Mint Macaron, Sweet Sugarplum in 6 x 6 sheets!  Yes, Yes!  I had to have it!! The other one, shown here, is a stamp set called Reverse Words!

The background images were stamped using the Timeless Textures Stamp Set.  I really liked the way this card turned out!  I hope you do too!

My favorite

justanote-cardDoes this look familiar? What is it about this stamp set that makes me so darn happy?? I don’t know either but I am sure I will use it again! LOL

Thick Whisper White card stock, Stazon ink, and colored with markers. That’s it! Deja Vu? LOL Simple. But, elegant.

This card went to my fabulous up-line! She has always been supportive and proactive with her entire team! I sent it as a Thank you card for putting the challenge in place! It really helped me. It’s funny because I will look at a stamp set and go, oh there is so much I can do with that! But having a challenge, makes me say, Oh! I know the perfect stamp set for that challenge. Do you see the difference? It gives me a direction! Anyway….

Embellishment Opportunity

thankyouforthegiftSo yesterday, I mentioned that a card I stamped couldn’t be saved. That, “There are no mistakes. There are only embellishment opportunities,” didn’t work out. It’s rare but it happens. This one, however, is the perfect example of how to save a card that is messed up! LOL So, where’s the boo-boo? Well, I stamped over it!  Just off the tail of the “Y” in thank you, I had ink on the edge of the stamp and didn’t see it when I stamped the sentiment.  There wasn’t going to be anything else on the card… Just the sentiment.  Well…..  Not a bad save, eh?  Coloring the butterfly with markers also helped conceal lighter lines… Phew! *mops her brow*

This card went to my mother-in-law. She sent me a gift card for my birthday and I wanted to thank her.

Challenge #10!

thinkingofyouPhew! I made it through! This challenge was to make 3 cards and SEND them out! LOL!!! At first, it was for birthday cards. I am so bad at my correspondence that I asked if it could be any card (since February is a little light in the birthday department). YES! I am so excited. So, since I knew I would be mailing these cards, I decided to make 4 no-layer cards. Sooooo this card was supposed to be a double. But! I mis-inked it. Now, as you may know, there are no mistakes ONLY embellishment opportunities. Well, in a later card, I did take advantage of that. But not this one. There was no way to save it.

Thick Whisper White card stock, Stazon ink, and colored with markers.  That’s it!  Simple.  But, elegant.  I will post the other two cards soon.  I REALLY liked the way they turned out too.

This card went to my sister-in-law.  Just because….

Challenge #3

beautifulbirthdayOk.  I have to pat myself on the back for this one.  Ever make a card and think, “Oh my word! That’s stunning??”  I have times where that happens.  Other times I think, “Eh, not bad.  It needs something.”  And still, other times I think, “yikes!”  Others might like it but there is something really missing!

This card, though.  Perfect!  Yeah, I said it, “perfect!”  Could I have added more embellishments?  Of course, but… I wanted this card to be simple and stunning.  Yes, this hits the mark! *pat, pat, pat on the back*  So, if you haven’t guessed, this challenge was about watercoloring.  I knew what I was going to do before I did.  I was thinking about the new Lift Me Up stamp set with the hot air balloon….. but….. I am a butterfly girl!  I wasn’t always but thanks to a trip that I took, thanks to Stampin’ Up!, I became one.  I haven’t stopped since.  I may still do a hot air balloon….

I started with the watercolor pencils and the aqua painters.  It just wasn’t bold enough for me.  So, I moved to ink.  I did it right on top of the watercolor pencils. WOW’ser!
